Internship Opportunities for Students
The department encourages all students to consider applying for and completing an internship during their tenure at the university.
Internships provide students with hands-on experience in either the public or private sector, giving students a greater appreciation for the complexity of politics, policy-making, and the legal system.

Fall Internships | July 1 |

Internship Types
The Department gives credit for (3) types of internships:
- Pre-law
- Legislative
- Public Agency
Pre-law (PSC 9480) - up to (3) credits
- Internship may be with either public or private law firms
- Interested students should contact Professor Dunn or Professor Hagedorn.
Legislative (PSC 3480) - up to (3) credits
- Internship may be with either U.S. or Colorado legislators
- Interested students should contact Professor Hagedorn.
Public Agency (PSC 3980) - up to (3) credits
- Internship may be with either governmental or nonprofit agencies
- Interested students should contact Professor Hagedorn.
Please note thatthese are not classes. Our department gives credit for completing certain internships, which you apply for and complete yourself.
The credit requirements vary slightly among faculty, but usually involve a minimum hour per week requirement, weekly journal responses, and a final reflection paper.
We do not give credit for working or volunteering on political campaigns, but strongly support students seeking out those opportunities and gaining that experience.
